						FYI: Here are some
examples of brief messages you should communicate to
						their offices and staff people:

						1. We believe that “separate” is not “equal.” All people
should have equal rights under the law. Right now,
members of sexual minorities in the State of Washington
do not have equal rights, and may legally be
discriminated against in matters of housing, public
						accommodations, employment, health care, custodial
rights, credit, and inheritance. Washington State law
does not protect these people. Seven cities and
three counties have already passed anti-discrimination
laws. Safety from discrimination based on minority
status is a basic right. All of Washington’s citizens
need and deserve equal protection. This is why we
						support passage of the Anderson-Murray
Antidiscrimination bill, HB 1515 -- and why you should
						to as my elected official.

						2. Gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered (GLBT)
people contribute significantly to the economic
wellbeing of the communities in which they live and
work. We believe that when one group is discriminated
against, our whole society suffers. Ending
discrimination based on sexual and gender orientation
						benefits communities economically, socially, and
						spiritually. Nondiscrimination policies have benefited
communities where antidiscrimination laws exist. For
example, people want to work for companies with fair
hiring and promotion practices. HB 1515 will not require
extra funding by the state, and will improve the
						business climate in Washington.

						3. Many states (14, plus the District of Columbia) have
already passed this kind of antidiscrimination
legislation. It’s time that Washington does so as well,
even after delaying this action for almost 30 years. HB
1515 has broad-based support, from many religious,
						civic, humanitarian, business, and professional
						organizations.
